Kalilangan Fest awarded Best Tourism Event of the Phils for 2011!

Gensan made it again to the national recognition and awards during the 12th ATOP (Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines) National Convention last Oct 3-6, 2011 at the Villareal Stadium, Roxas City, Province of Capiz.

The Tourism Division staff composed of Gregory Dominic Velos, Dianne Kristine Acharon, Darlon Solana, Stewart Ang, Ma. Charina Salazar-Cruz, Shernie Limbo and Hosen Ngilay headed by Maria Cora C. Tito, proved that indeed Gensan events and celebrations are more than just competitive. “They are the unsung heroes behind these events who continuously labored to promote Gensan in the national tourism scene”, quipped Meriam L. Buguis, CEMCDO Department Head.

Hon. City Mayor Darlene Magnolia R. Antonino-Custodio sent delegates to the ATOP convention comprising Maria Cora C. Tito, the City’s Tourism Officer & ATOP’s National Vice President for Mindanao and Dr. Gregory Dominic S. Velos, Tourism Officer I- Gensan’s finalist to the Search for 2011’s Best Tourism Officer of the Philippines.

The Awarding Ceremonies of the ATOP -DOT’s Best Tourism Practices Awards happened last October 5, 2011, 6pm. Several Local Chief Executives, who were finalists attended the ceremonies to witness and received their awards.

The most coveted titles of ATOP-DOT’s Best Tourism Practices Awards are:

1. Best Tourism Event of the Philippines:
a. Festival Category: Economic (Provincial, City & Municipal Level)
b. Culture & Arts Category: (Provincial, City & Municipal Level)- Kalilangan 2011 as Gensan’s entry- Champion
c. Sports & Wellness Category: (Provincial, city & Municipal Level) – 4th Gensan Eco-Karera as our entry- won 1st Runner-Up
d. Food Category (Provincial, City & Municipal Level)
2. Best National Tourism Week Celebration (Provincial, City & Municipal Level)- Gensan’s 6th NTW Celebration was our entry- Champion
3. Best Tourism Organization of the Philippines (Nationwide- no category levels)
4. Best Tourism Officer of the Phils (Nationwide – no category levels)- Gregory Dominic Velos- Gensan’s entry- won 1st Runner-Up

Out of 34 city- entries in the various categories and 17 entries of the Search for the Best Tourism Officer of the Philippines, Gensan emerged victorious in the following categories - Kalilangan and 6th NTW Celebration won as Champions in their categories. While the 4th Gensan Eco-Karera and Dr. Jing Velos won as 1st runner-ups in their categories respectively.

Special thanks are extended to MSU Chancellor Abdurrahman T. Canacan & Vice Chancellor Dr. Mary Lynn S. Abiera- Co-Chair & Festival Director of Kailangan 2011, Hon. Virgie O. Llido- Chairperson of 4th Gensan Eco-Karera and Mr. Edgar D. Cadiente-Chairperson of the 6th NTW Celebration for doing excellent jobs in the mentioned festival, event and celebration.
