Organizers together with the city government officials meet Tuesday, January 22, get ready for the yearly Kalilangan scheduled during the last week of February.
The coordination meeting was held at the City Mayor’s Office attended by city officials and organizing institution Mindanao State University- General Santos City.
Kalilangan 2013 is the city’s celebration of its 74th Foundation Anniversary culminating on the 27th of February.
“It is intended to pay tribute to our forefathers through one- week long colorful events”, the memorandum of agreement between the city government and the institution stipulates.
City Mayor Darlene Antonino- Custodio chairs the festival with MSU-GSC Chancellor Atty. Abdurrahman T. Canacan as co- chairman while Dr. Mary Lynn Abiera, the University’s Vice- Chancellor for Academic Affairs is festival director.
“As aspiring hall of famer this year, we have leveled up the festival and hopefully hook this rare award”, Abiera said.
The Hall of Fame is an award given by the Association of Tourism Officers in the Philippines (ATOP) to a 3- time winner under the same category in three consecutive years.
“This is not just a tribute to our forefathers but also a celebration of the peaceful co-existence of the tri-people of General Santos City because we have been living here in harmony”, Abieraemphasized.“It is our celebration.”(Russtum G. Pelima/MSU-GSC)
