Kalilangan declared national best tourism event in 2012

In October last year, General Santos City’s Kalilangan Festival was declared Best Tourism Event in Culture and Arts Category, City Level, during the 13th National Convention of the Association of Tourism Officers in the Philippines (ATOP) at Dakak Park and Beach Resort, Dapitan City.
2012 was the second time the event bagged the same award following the preceding year. Kalilangan has been managed by MSU- General Santos in partnership with the city government.
During the said occasion, Kalilangan Festival Director Dr. Mary Lyn Abiera was awarded Best Presenter. Abiera is MSU- General Santos’ Vice- Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
Kalilangan is the city’s carrier event for its Foundation Anniversary celebration showcasing the city’s history, artistry, cultural heritage and tourism potentials.
National Best Tourism Event
Trophy received by Kalilangan Festival Director Dr. Mary Lynn Abiera for Kalilangan Festival 2012 as Best Tourism Event in 2012, Culture Category, City Level, at the ATOP’s 13th National Convention on October 4, 2012. Abiera was also hailed best presenter during the convention.
With the two consecutive awards, Kalilangan is now aspiring to be ATOP’s Hall of Fame awardee this year. Hall of Fame is an award given to a 3- time winner given by the association under the same category in three consecutive years.
ATOP is the strategic implementing arm of the Department of Tourism in collaboration with the local government units and other tourism stakeholders.
ATOP has an estimated membership of 1,000 officers and legislators promoting local tourism. It has launched the Best Tourism Practices Award in 2005 to celebrate the best in the tourism industry.
